I'm searching around the web for web developers who would be willing to do equity partnerships. Does anyone here have any idea where a good place would be to start?

I'm currently working on a new site, its a great idea but I dont have as much support as I'd like. I currently have 1 programmer who I hired but its not enough and I dont have much money to get this going. Any advice is appreciated.

Problem with "Equity Partnerships", "revenue shares" is there doesnt tend to be much equity and when it comes to doing it right.... aka: Legal contractual agreements the principles run for the hills.

Very few of these "site ideas" come to any real fruition... many reasons, not to be a downing Tomasina.

Most indie web ventures have no business plan, no business model, have not done case modelling on and on and these are as important, in fact more important than the software. One can have great software but if the aspects of a site such as revenue models, business plans, case models are not done or are flawed doesnt matter... it'll fail sure as Kittens make more Kittens.

Most indie's have a concept in their heads and it might even be good. But until its on paper, until its pitfalls, use cases, positive facets are on paper, documented and picked to pieces not a line of code should be written.

I'm very well versed in Web development and well... quite a bit more. Searching around the Internet for developers to go in on a two line, "I need" is most assuredly the wrong way to go about it.

First off... If the concepts are sound, the business model very good (good is not good enough these days), marketing, case usage on and on are all documented then its time to seek venture capital or partnership.

You wont find many "qualified" developers who are going to go, "Oh sure! Lets go". You will find some that will say, "Ok lets go. And once going if they dont see instant results, syonara, they'll strand you, not fix bugs, or even sabotage". I've seen all of the above and more.

Qualified developers want see the full gambit and they will then look at partnering and/or helping finance things.

Going to web sites and randomly asking "I need developers" is not wise. Its not wise in many ways. You might actually have a good concept and they'll screw you up, swipe it, and call it their own.

I usually use http://www.forums.digitalpoint.com it's a very large community and the people there are very helpful. Namepros.com is a useful website too. I learned the basics in both and now I consider myself to be a webmaster with many skills in different aspects of the business.

Anyway, good luck with your search.

Hi vincec,

How will you manage so many equity partnerships? So for example you require 5-6 guys, will you be able to generate a decent amount to satisfy all? I mean, share more specific statistics. Many developers are doing home based business and are easily available on community networks, job boards and classified sites.

As per my research, you could easily get connect them through Odesk, Servana and other online market places.
